Let the council know that you’re not happy with the way it has handled the consultation. If enough of us do this it may make them think again. Things that you can do are:

  • Complain about the way the consultation process was carried out, following the Brighton and Hove Council Complaints Procedure. Start by writing a letter or email a complaint about the process to the council’s Standards and Complaints team. You could use this sample complaint letter as a starting point.
  • If you believe the reply you receive is unsatisfactory, escalate your complaint to Stage 2 of the council’s procedure.
  • If the council’s response is unsatisfactory, escalate your complaint to the Ombudsman.
  • Write a letter or email to your local councillors, saying that you want our streets to be included in the parking scheme and explaining why.
  • Write directly to the Chief Executive complaining about the way the Environment Department presented the information and used the responses.
  • Widen grass-roots support by speaking to your friends and neighbours.
